Letter From The CEO: Oct 2016
Today, I'm asking you to support the Y. There are many ways you can do it: You can buy a ticket to our upcoming Y Splash gala and fundraiser, you can bid on silent auction items (even if you can't make it to the event), or you can simply give.
Here's why…
The Y has a mission that has significant breadth and depth: to strengthen the foundations of community. But that big, bold cause makes real, tangible differences in the lives of thousands of families in Boulder County.
Here Are Just Some of the Ways The Y Strengthens Community:
1 in 3 of our members and participants access the Y and its programs with the help of financial assistance.
Last year, the YMCA of Boulder Valley gave out around $474,000 in financial assistance. This year, we are on track to give away $800,000. That is a massive increase that shows there is a need for increased Y support in this community.
Through the YMCA Safety Around Water Program, we have provided free swim lessons to hundreds of children in Boulder Valley School District, in Boulder County Head Start and within the Longmont community.
90 percent of students in YMCA Inspire Preschool attend with the help of financial assistance, allowing low-income children to hop the achievement gap by getting access to free or heavily discounted early childhood education.
The Y helps fund the BVSD Preschool Nutrition Weekend Bag Program, which ensures that low-income children at several elementary schools have food on the weekends.
YMCA Teen Programs have become a welcoming, accepting home for teens who need a community to call their own. These youth have even worked with our staff to develop a peer support group, which began this fall.
This summer more than 500 children went to summer camp with the help of financial assistance, connecting with nature, building confidence by trying new skills and experiencing smile-widening adventure.
We collaborate with dozens of organizations, cities, counties, school districts and more to further strengthen the foundations of community.
You can help us ensure that the Y continues to be a support system, helping hand and extended family for your neighbors in need.
Please consider joining us at Y Splash. It's a great event — delicious food, excellent drinks, silent and live auctions, and games — that also happens to be a heart-touching presentation of the Y's role in this community. As I mentioned above, if you cannot make it, please consider checking out our silent auction, which will be open for bidding on Oct 20. Or simply give to make sure that all people have access to YMCA programs.
Thank You,
Chris Coker
CEO/President of YMCA of Boulder Valley
